Encinitas Farm House
At this modern day farm house in Encinitas, the landscape dominates your views as you move through the property. The landscape has a contemporary rustic style which aims to combine industrial materials with modern design. The industrial components of the architecture were mimicked in the landscape by utilizing galvanized steel fountains, steel gabion cages, and wooden bridges. A privacy screen was designed with galvanized steel gabion cages filled with local rock set against a lush meadow of fescue. Ancient field grown olive trees were imported from Northern California and frame the approach to the house. The gabion basket walls were utilized throughout the property including custom designed fountain with galvanized water pipe scuppers. As you approach the front door, an ipe and stainless steel bridge crosses over a pond which is fed by a gabion water feature. A sunken firepit area provides long views of the linear style pool. The planting design incorporated several species of grasses to create a soft, lush meadow for the front yard. More contemporary style plants were used at the perimeter to compliment the metal gabion baskets.
